Postdoc  summary/title: Senior Research Associate

The main role of this position will be to lead the production of Health Evidence Reviews (HERs) at the request of government. It requires proficiency in systematic review (including critical appraisal and meta-analytic techniques) and scoping review methods; basic quantitative techniques; and qualitative approaches to collecting and analysing data. Strong communication skills are needed, since the position must interact with many different stakeholder communities. In addition to this main role, there will be  opportunities to engage in other research related to methods for assessing technologies, services and programs throughout their lifecycle and determining the broader social value of therapies for rare diseases as part of other grants held by members of the Unit.  Therefore, activities in which the research associate will be involved include planning, developing, conducting, implementing and disseminating research in the form of HTAs and other empirical work.

Postdoc  summary/title: Research Associate – Agronomy

We are seeking a Research Associate specialization in Agronomy. The purpose of the cereal agronomy research program is to generate knowledge and foster innovation to support the growth of Alberta’s cereal crop industry. The candidate’s primary role is to develop, coordinate, lead, execute and interpret research projects to generate high-quality scientific information for growers and the industry. The successful candidate will work with the Principle Investigator Dr. Guillermo Hernandez-Ramirez with the department of Renewable Resources within the Faculty of Agricultural Life and Environmental Sciences.  This scientific position contributes to lead and coordinate research programs on cereal agronomy at the provincial scale. (03) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc  summary/title: Research Associate

The Ultracold Quantum Gases Laboratory at the University of Alberta is engaged in several projects related to quantum sensing and quantum computing using neutral atomic gases as a quantum medium on which to develop these emerging technologies. This position requires a person with expertise in atomic physics to work towards several milestones outlined in recently successful grants. These include work towards a rubidium-based, microwave-enhanced atomic magnetometer; using the nonlinear optical properties of a rubidium vapour as a means to create and manipulate quantum optical information; and assisting with the construction, commissioning, and operation of a prototype quantum computing module based on individually optically trapped neutral atoms. This position will contribute to the development of new neutral-atom-based quantum technologies.

(04) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc  summary/title: Research Associate

The Research Associate is responsible for (scientific and operational) data oversight from the point where data collection is complete through to access of processed data by members of the research team and production of research outputs. The Research Associate will assist with other aspects of management of the project as required. This position will focus on the Alberta Workforce Resilience Study and support the ongoing TREC Measurement System (TMS). The TREC Measurement System (TMS) is an observational study in which data are collected across ~90 facilities from several thousand providers. TMS surveys are collected at approximately 18-month intervals, while data from residents is collected in annual and quarterly (RAI-MDS 2.0) assessments routinely captured in the nursing homes. The upcoming Alberta Workforce Resilience Study is an expanded wave of the longitudinal TMS observational study. It will run through 2025 and include an expanded cohort of LTC homes in Alberta.

he Indigenous and Global Health Research Group (IGHRG) led by Dr. Sangita Sharma, the Canada Research Chair in Population Health, Professor in Indigenous and Global Health Research Group in the Department of Medicine at the University of Alberta is currently accepting applications for postdoctoral positions with the team. The IGHRG is a multi-disciplinary research group of 25+ staff that was established by Dr. Sharma in 2010. Dr. Sharma and the team have an extensive international background working with over 22 populations in various countries worldwide but now primarily focus on working with Indigenous and/or ethnic minority populations in Alberta, British Columbia, Northwest Territories (NT), and Nunavut (NU). Current funded projects include: assessing health and wellness and access to healthcare services with Indigenous seniors and Elders living in NT; maternal and infant health care and outcomes for Indigenous populations in NT; identifying the barriers to and opportunities for improving access to healthcare services for Indigenous populations in NT to inform culturally appropriate programming to improve patient experiences; capturing the anticipated and unanticipated consequences of COVID-19 preventive measures with Indigenous communities in NU and NT; working with NT Indigenous communities to understand the perspectives of community members toward HPV, HPV vaccination along with attitudes towards and experience with the COVID-19 vaccine; assessing side effects and experience of COVID-19 vaccination among NT and NU Indigenous communities; gathering culturally safe recommendations for increasing trust in public health prevention measures in northern Indigenous communities; and working with 25 NT and NU communities to explore community immunity from COVID-19 and COVID-19 vaccination as well as gather recommendations to support future pandemic preparedness in Arctic Canada. The successful applicants will participate and lead research that applies advanced statistical, AI and ML techniques to large populational health data of patients with mental and substance use disorders. Current and potential projects include two main directions: 1) Individualized prediction of mental and substance use disorders and overdoses and associated health and economical outcomes in the population using health, survey and biological data; 2) Implementation of ML models through interactions with multiple stakeholders and people with living and lived experiences The successful applicants will have the opportunity of supervised access to several public and government/institution owned datasets, including large (over 4 million people) de-identified health data from Alberta. A postdoc position is available immediately to study calcium and redox signaling between the Endoplasmic Reticulum and Mitochondria in the Simmen laboratory (Department of Cell Biology, University of Alberta). The successful applicant will be studying the function of redox-sensitive ER proteins in this mechanism. These proteins localize to ER-mitochondria contact sites dependent on oxidation and reduction of cysteines. A special focus interest will be on the significance of this mechanism for the crosstalk between various CNS cell types, using co-culture approaches. The appointee will have the opportunity to work with both local and national multi-disciplinary teams to enhance the health care outcomes of at-risk infants. The appointee will be involved in the research activities related to the Canadian Neonatal Network (CNN), Evidence-based Practice Quality Improvement (EPIQ), and other provincial & national databases. These studies are currently funded through two CIHR grants, as well as other provincial/ local research funding.  Training will be provided on advanced methods in various areas such as epidemiology, data analysis, as well as clinical infectious diseases. Another project will investigate the underlying metabolic alterations in pathogenic vs regulatory CD4+ and CD8+ T cells in autoimmune diabetes.
