(06) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc  summary/title:–Postdoctoral Research Fellow/Research Fellow in Synthetic Clinical Data and Federated Learning

This is an exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow/Research Fellow to focus their efforts on developing their expertise and emerging research profile in synthetic clinical data generation and federated learning.

Access to clinical data for medical research and education is often difficult because of lengthy data sharing agreements and privacy concerns. Two complementary approaches to facilitate access to clinical data are:

  • the generation and distribution of synthetic clinical data, i.e. data with similar statistical properties as the real data that was used to generate them, but without identifiable patient information.

  • federated learning, whereby a machine learning model can be trained by using data from different clinical sites but without requiring central data aggregation.

(10) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc  summary/title:–Postdoctoral Research Fellow – Coral Reef Restoration Science

An exciting post-doctoral research position is available to join a collaborative group of researchers designing impactful coral reef interventions in Palau (Micronesia) and the Philippines, with a view to sharing outcomes globally. The team partners reef ecologists at UQ with researchers at the University of the Philippines, the Palau International Coral Reef Center, and the University of Newcastle (UK). Specifically, we are developing intervention strategies, including restoration, that help coral reefs adapt to climate change and in a range of ecological environments.

The position is based at UQ but will involve field travel to Palau and potentially the Philippines. Specific activities include both field studies to measure key ecological processes as well as the use of an existing ecological model to simulate alternative management strategies. The project will have practical benefits for reef restoration but also contribute to a broader theoretical agenda on how to construct complementary management approaches to maximise the future trajectory of corals.

(11) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc  summary/title:–Postdoctoral Research Fellow – Systems Biologist

Synthetic biology is characterised by a cyclic workflow based on the design, build, test, learn paradigm. The emergence of genome-foundries allows for the rapid, but still costly, generation of large numbers of engineered strains. The University of Queensland is establishing a complementary facility to genome-foundries, the Integrated Design Environment for Advanced biomanufacturing (IDEA bio, https://www.ideabio.org.au/). This facility will consist of a TEST capability that allows for a deep phenomic characterisation of mutant strains, in partnership with Queensland Metabolomics and Proteomics (Q MAP https://www.qmap.org.au/) and the Australian Genome Foundry (Macquarie University), as well as a LEARN capability that seeks to learn from large ‘omics data sets and direct strain optimisation, pathway optimisation and metabolic engineering to advance synthetic biology efforts in Australia.

We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow who specialises in metabolic modelling and ‘omics data driven characterisation of cells. You will join a team of researchers to establish systems biology-based workflows to drive the data-driven bioprocess optimisation capability of this facility, including strain design. The position is primarily computationally based and will work with a bioinformatician/data scientist to use modelling and machine-learning approaches to learn from large data sets to inform further strain engineering or bioprocess optimisation rounds.

Deadline : 21st May 2024
