The five-year project “BioValCat” (Enhanced Biomass Valorisation by Engineering of Polyoxometalate Catalysts), funded by the ERC Consolitator Grant 2022, aims to enable 100% carbon efficiency from complex biomass by developing innovative POM catalyst-solvent systems for aerobic and anaerobic applications and to develop this into an innovative and widely applicable process technology.

Your research tasks involve the planning, implementation and evaluation of projects, the acquisition of third-party funding, and the regular publication of research results. We are seeking applicants whose research interests fit in with the research foci of the department. These lie in the development and maintenance mechanisms of psychotic symptoms as well as their transfer into innovative interventions. Applicants are also expected to contribute to joint projects of the Institute of Psychology and the Faculty’s thematic focus on Mechanisms of Change.

Teaching comprises 9 LVS (weekly teaching units) and will take place in the newly introduced Bachelor and Master of Science degree programs on the basis of the licensing regulations for psychotherapists of February 14, 2020. It will include teaching the basics of clinical psychology in the areas of phenomenology, classification, epidemiology, etiology and course of mental disorders across the lifespan and conveying skills in psychological intervention and prevention. Teaching will be mainly in form of seminars and is expected to include case presentations, practical demonstrations and exercises.

Research associates will be expected primarily to teach and conduct research. The research associate will also have the opportunity to pursue further academic qualifications, in particular a doctoral dissertation. At least one-third of set working hours will be made available for the research associate’s own academic work.

Teaching tasks include the supervision of bachelor and master theses, as well as the preparation of and contribution to lectures, tutorials, and seminars.

Our main research topics are pricing and sales promotions. In our empirical research, we measure the effects of these marketing instruments and derive recommendations for their optimal use, especially for consumer goods and media products.

In the project “DDLitLab – Digital and Data Literacy in Teaching Lab” you will work together with an interdisciplinary team of engaged researchers and teachers towards novel teaching models to enhance data and digital literacy throughout the university. Your responsibility as research software engineer is technically supporting and guiding teaching labs to ensure that they can utilize appropriate state of the art technology.

• consulting for scientists of all faculties about possibilities and implementations of data science solutions for research

The aim of the project is to understand gravity-wave breakup under various environmental conditions and the implications for the climate system. The work includes theoretical analysis and high-resolution simulations. Project results may be used in the context of a doctoral dissertation. The successful candidate will be part of the working group „Atmospheric Turbulence and Boundary Layers“.

The successful applicant will join the group of Prof. Bester and work on a research project concerned with excitonic effects in 2D materials. The candidate will use our ab-initio approach [1] which combines DFT and configuration interaction to calculate the exciton (X), charged excitons (X, X+), biexciton (XX) properties and their mutual interaction. The candidate will make use of our latest 2D-atomic eective pseudopotentials [2] and our recent force-field [3] (see Figure) to address moiré structures with up to 20,000 atoms. The position is within the vibrant SPP 2244 consortium.

Successfully completed studies in the field of geoecology, geosciences, agricultural sciences or a comparable degree program with a focus on soil science. PhD in the field of soil science, focus on soil water balance desirable. Sound experience in the field of ecohydrology and in the statistical analysis of pedological and soil hydrological data.

In-depth knowledge in the design and implementation of field and/or laboratory measurement campaigns, knowledge of soil hydrological laboratory analysis and experience with simulations in soil water balance models. A genuine interest and commitment to teaching and training in this field. Fluency in German is required.

In addition to research, associates will be expected to actively participate in the scientific events of the research center and in their organisation. The position does not involve teaching duties but there will be opportunities to teach based on voluntary commitment.

Within the collaborative research center “Higher structures, moduli spaces and integrability” we advertise several PhD positions for a duration of three years to start in 2024.

The research center is a joint initiative of the departments of Mathematics and Physics of the University Hamburg, DESY Hamburg, and the Technical University of Munich. It will provide a vibrant and focused research environment in the three core areas “higher structures and (topological) quantum field theories”, “integrability of non-perturbative effects in quantum field and string theories” and “deformations and asymptotics of moduli spaces”.

Our group is deeply involved in detector R&D, fast timing with LGADs, CMS pixel phase II upgrade, and in the investigation of radiation damage on silicon sensors. Candidates are expected to engage in the development and characterization of novel LGADs based on the “Monolithic Array of Reach Through APD” (MARTHA) design. A close collaboration with international partner institutes is expected.

Specific responsibility of the candidate will be:

• characterization of prototype LGADs with I-V, C-V, Laser- and beta-TCT
• optimisation of LGADs for fast-timing and radiation hardness using TCAD and MC tools
• integration of a LGAD fast-timing layer into a test beam setup

Our group has a longstanding history in experimental neutrino physics with large unsegmented liquid scintillator detectors. After a previous involvement in Borexino, we are now active in the JUNO and ANNIE experiments. One of our main focuses is the reconstruction of particle tracks in liquid scintillators. To strengthen our activities in this field, we are offering this postdoc position.

We offer a full-time (PostDoc) research position for 2.5-years as part of the project “Mapping Effects of Environmental Policies (MEEP)” (https://uhh.de/wiso-meep) funded by the Joachim Hertz Stiftung. MEEP seeks to conduct novel quasi-experimental studies on the effects of environmental polices and to assemble an open-science platform featuring interactive maps of the effects of environmental policies. The successful applicant is expected to conduct independent and collaborative research that contributes to the project. This can relate to empirical research in the domain of climate-, energy-, environmental- or labor-economics.

We are looking for a highly motivated postdoc for our “Marine Geophysics” group at Universität Hamburg. The aim of the project is to investigate the interaction between tectonic and underwater volcanism in the Vesturdjúp Basin between Iceland and Greenland, as well as the eruption processes. Multi-channel seismic and hydroacoustic data are available for this purpose and will have been measured by the time the project starts. The project is a cooperation between the Universität Hamburg, the Helmholtz Center for Ocean Research Kiel GEOMAR, the University of Gdansk, the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), and the University of Reykjavik.
