PhD position summary/title:–PhD scholarship in Energy Management of Energy Flexibility Assets in Sports Facilities – DTU Construct

The project aims to develop an AI-based energy management system that can optimally utilize the swimming pools as an energy flexibility asset, considering the indoor climate requirements of the pools at different seasons. Supportive models must be considered, e.g., models that include the technical system in swimming facilities. The task shall be carried out in collaboration with key industrial partners. The candidate will access SIAT’s network of swimming facilities where measurements and data from the operation of swimming facilities are stored in the building management system. The candidate will also have access to field-specific software like IDA ICE incl. pool extension.

(02) Fully Funded PhD Position 

PhD position summary/title:–PhD scholarship in ecosystem services provided by nature restoration – DTU Aqua

This PhD project based at DTU Aqua will focus on developing appropriate spatiotemporal monitoring and reporting metrics to investigate the evolution and stability of restored marine habitats and their ESs with focus on water quality and sediment processes. Both objectives will be based in bivalve beds but expand the studies to include other habitat types, such as seagrass meadows. The main focus will depend on the PhD candidate’s background and expertise, and interests. Data will be collected as part of ongoing restoration projects on restored habitats of eelgrass meadows, stone reefs, and bivalve beds/reefs. In your project you will build on existing knowledge developed at DTU Aqua, Aarhus University and University of Southern Denmark regarding marine restoration and ecosystem services. PhD position summary/title:–PhD scholarship in Neural Networks-based X-ray Tissue Imaging for Robotic Automation – DTU Compute

The overreaching objective of DEXTRA project is to develop X-ray imaging solution for integration into robotic meat deboning plants. Your PhD project will focus on developing reconstruction and analysis methods capable of determining 3D tissue composition (bone, meat, fat, air) from a limited number of projections, while ensuring sufficient accuracy. To achieve this, we plan to develop CT reconstruction leveraging pre-trained neural fields.

The biggest part of your work will involve developing and adapting deep learning algorithms such that they can be applied to the data obtained from X-ray imaging. You will collaborate closely with the team designing the appropriate imaging station. The 3D reconstructions you generate will serve as guidance for the deboning robot. You will also collaborate with the team developing the robotic solution.

Human tissue models based on stem cells provide new means for studying human health and disease in the lab. PhD position summary/title:–PhD scholarship in Quantum Information Security and Randomness Certification – DTU Physics

Are you excited about information security and the novel possibilities opened up by quantum technology? Are you fascinated by quantum physics and intriguing phenomena such as quantum entanglement, nonlocality, and indeterminism in quantum measurements?

At the Section for Quantum Physics and Information Technology, we are seeking an excellent and highly motivated PhD candidate to work on the theory of novel quantum randomness certification protocols. In this project, we will connect fundamental physics to information security, establishing the security analysis of new, cutting-edge devices which can be implemented with quantum optical technology and will be realised in the lab. The theoretical work will be carried out in close collaboration with experimental colleagues and engineers at DTU Physics as well as other academic and industry actors, including the University of Ghent, the Danish National Metrology Institute, and DTU spin-off Alea Quantum Technologies.

The successful candidate will be enrolled in the Section for Quantum Physics and Information Techology (QPIT) of DTU Physics, which hosts a wide range of activities in both fundamental quantum information science and applied quantum technology, including the national Centre of Excellence for Macroscopic Quantum States (bigQ). In particular, the candidate will be part of the theory subgroup headed by Prof. Jonatan Bohr Brask and the quantum cryptography activities headed by Prof. Tobias Gehring.

At the Technical University of Denmark, Department of Energy Conversion and Storage (DTU Energy), we are spearheading the acceleration of the discovery of green materials that could be used in next-generation energy conversion and storage devices.  

We have a unique opening to expand our efforts in developing our self-driving laboratory (SDL) that combines robotics-based lab automation, machine learning, and high-throughput computational simulations. The self-driving labs iteratively conduct a series of experiments selected by the machine learning algorithm that maps the correlation between the user-defined synthesis parameters and the objective. The combination of AI and robotics greatly accelerates the slow chemical space exploration process, which opens the door to designing new types of materials by effectively exploring the vast number of experimental variables.

We have several ongoing SDL activities surrounding the development of battery electrolytes and catalysts for power-to-X applications. The focus of this position is to expand our SDL capabilities to develop and use the SDL infrastructure to design polymer-based electrolytes for battery and power-to-X applications. DTU Aqua offers a 3-year PhD position in microalgae for fish feed. Your overall focus will be on different microalgae species and their nutritional quality for use in aquaculture feeds.

PhD position summary/title:–PhD scholarships on “Live” Visualizations of Single Nanoparticle Catalysts at the Atomic-Scale – DTU Physics

Could you envision “seeing” chemical reactions being catalyzed at the atomic-scale? Two or more scholarships are now open for experimental research in nanoparticle catalysis using advanced operando electron microscopy at the Center for Visualizing Catalytic Processes (VISION). 

VISION is developing and applying a new unique platform for visualizing catalytic nanoparticles and reactions at the atomic-level by integrating cutting-edge electron microscopy, microfabricated nanoreactors, nanoparticle synthesis and computational modelling. This approach enables new, direct operando observations that are urgently needed to advance mechanistic insight into catalytic processes at the atomic-scale. 

The interdisciplinary approach aims at relating the atomic-scale structure, dynamics and functions of isolated, single nanoparticles in both thermal catalysis and electrocatalysis as a radical new approach for developing new and more efficient catalysts needed to tackle the environmental challenges of our time.

VISION’s hosts a new one-of-a-kind electron microscope facility, located in DTU’s new “Climate Challenge Laboratory” building. The new laboratory will host the VISION center, the Surface Physics and Catalysis section, the CatTheory section and the newly established Pioneer Center, CAPeX, as a vibrant collaborative research environment with internationally leading scientists in the fields of catalysis and power-to-X.
