(01) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc  summary/title:–Research Fellow in Public Key Cryptanalysis

Applications are invited for Postdoctoral Research Fellow, to work on the EPSRC-funded project “PKC-Sec: Security Analysis of Classical and Post-Quantum Public Key Cryptography Assumptions”. The successful post holder is expected to start as soon as possible after accepting the position and will be based in the School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering, within the Computer Science Research Centre and the highly regarded Surrey Centre for Cyber Security (SCCS), working with Dr. Robert Granger.

The aim of the project is to research and develop algorithms for solving computational problems that are foundational to the security of public key cryptography, both now and in the future. In particular, it will study: the discrete logarithm problem in finite fields of fixed characteristic, for which an efficient classical algorithm is potentially on the horizon; the security of the Legendre pseudo-random function, which is extremely well suited for multi-party computation and is used in the proof of custody construction within Ethereum, but is not so well-studied; and finally the security of supersingular isogeny-based post-quantum cryptography, which although a relatively young field offers many very promising applications. Due to their nature, any cryptographic assumptions based on mathematical constructions are potentially weaker than currently believed, and the project will deepen our understanding and assess the hardness of these natural and fundamental problems.

(09) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc  summary/title:–Research Assistant in Enabling and Evaluating Homelessness Placements

The clinical psychology programme team is looking to employ a part time 0.2 FTE fixed term research assistant to support the development of our work within the Homeless sector. This post is crucial to the programme being able to build the evidence of the impact of providing training placements for clinical psychologists within the sector. Until very recently there was limited training opportunities to work in this sector owing to the barriers of supervision and placement expectations. Over the last year we have piloted a new approach which NHSE have supported. They have provided further financial commitment for another years to enable us to extend the project and explore how best to evaluate the direct and indirect benefits of the project.

This post would particularly suit those with an aspiration to become a clinical psychologist. We particularly encourage applications from those who identify as belonging to Black, Asian or other minoritized ethnic groups as these groups are underrepresented both in the programme team and the wider profession of clinical psychology. Applicants will typically need to have a degree in psychology or relevant field, be confident in the use of quantitative and qualitative research methodologies as well as how to undertake evaluations, as well as self-assurance in their written and oral communication skills so that they are able to engage in sensitive topics of conversations. The post will provide an opportunity to work with a team of applied  psychologists, homeless sector partners as well as trainees  who respect and value one another, are advocates for lived experience, lifelong learning, and who embrace change.  The profession of clinical psychology currently attracts fewer individuals from minority groups into training. These posts will play a central role in helping us to understand how the profession can help address psychological and physical health inequalities in this sector. We are seeking someone  who wishes to contribute to this and be part of a cultural change.
