Postdoc summary/title:– Researcher in Experimental Neutrino Astrophysics
Detection of neutrinos at ultra-high energies (UHE, >1017eV) would be one of the most important discoveries in astroparticle physics in the 21st century. Radio detection remains the most promising technique for instrumenting a volume large enough to study UHE neutrinos, and the first detector of sufficient size (RNO-G) is currently being constructed in Greenland. At the same time, an order of magnitude larger radio array is envisioned as part of the IceCube-Gen2 efforts to build the next-generation neutrino observatory at the South Pole.
We are looking for a highly motivated and skilled researcher who will have the opportunity to contribute to the new era of ultra-high-energy neutrino detection. The successful candidate is expected to work in an international environment and play a leading role in detector development by working on a deep-learning trigger system to increase the rate of detectable neutrinos substantially. This work includes the trigger design in a simulation study, its implementation on a microprocessor and/or FPGA and testing the functionality in the lab.

Postdoc summary/title:– Researcher – commissioning beamline scientist at DREAM, ESS
The Department of Chemistry – Ångström conducts research and education in the chemistry field. The department has more than 280 employees and has a turnover of 300 million SEK. At the department’s six programs, we conduct very successful research of a high international standard. We have a large number of externally funded research projects, often with international cooperation and we see continued good growth in our subject area. The department has education assignments in engineering programs and master’s programs. More information is available on our website. (https://kemi.uu.se/angstrom/?languageId=1).
The European Spallation Source (ESS) is a European Research Infrastructure Consortium (ERIC) with 13 founding countries including two host countries, Sweden and Denmark. The core of the facility is located in Lund, Sweden, while a Data Management and Software Center (DMSC) is located in Kongens Lyngby, Denmark. ESS has been built with in-kind contributions from more than 40 partners in European centers and has benefited from more than 130 collaborating institutions. A neutron user facility, ESS will produce neutrons by spallation from an accelerator-target complex that will deliver a unique long pulse to a range of neutron scattering instruments with an unprecedented neutron flux at the highest energy and spatial resolutions. More information is available on website.
The “Diffraction Resolved by Energy and Angle Measurements” (DREAM) diffractometer is one of the first instruments to be constructed at European Spallation Source (ESS). The DREAM instrument is built in a collaboration of the Laboratoire Léon Brillouin (France) and Forschungszentrum Jülich (Germany). The concept of the instrument utilizes the long pulse and unpreceded peak brightness of the ESS source by pulse shaping choppers and by viewing both thermal and cold moderators. As a result, a particularly flexible choice between high resolution and high intensity modes can be offered to the users. 2D position-sensitive 10B-detector technology will be capable for high position-sensitive resolution and also for expected high count rates. Powder diffraction, pair-distribution function and low-angle neutron scattering measurements with polarized neutrons will be possible at DREAM.

About Uppsala University, Sweden –Official Website
Uppsala University is a research university in Uppsala, Sweden. Founded in 1477, it is the oldest university in Sweden and all of the Nordic countries still in operation. It has ranked among the world’s 100 best universities in several high-profile international rankings during recent years. The university uses “Gratiae veritas naturae” as its motto and embraces natural sciences.
The university rose to pronounced significance during the rise of Sweden as a great power at the end of the 16th century and was then given a relative financial stability with the large donation of King Gustavus Adolphus in the early 17th century. Uppsala also has an important historical place in Swedish national culture, identity and for the Swedish establishment: in historiography, literature, politics, and music. Many aspects of Swedish academic culture in general, such as the white student cap, originated in Uppsala. It shares some peculiarities, such as the student nation system, with Lund University and the University of Helsinki.
Uppsala belongs to the Coimbra Group of European universities and to the Guild of European Research-Intensive Universities. The university has nine faculties distributed over three “disciplinary domains”. It has about 44,000 registered students and 2,300 doctoral students. It has a teaching staff of roughly 1,800 (part-time and full-time) out of a total of 6,900 employees. Twenty-eight per cent of the 716 professors at the university are women. Of its turnover of SEK 6.6 billion (approx. USD 775 million) in 2016, 29% was spent on education at Bachelor’s and Master’s level, while 70% was spent on research and research programs.
