PhD position summary/title:–PhD scholarship in Machine Learning Techniques for Spectral Shaping of Ultra-Broadband Optical Frequency Combs – DTU Electro

We seek a motivated, curious, and outgoing PhD candidate with a solid background in optical communication, laser physics or nonlinear optics. Experience with machine learning, digital signal processing and experimental work is a plus.

The project goal is to explore various machine learning techniques to realize feedback control that can enable spectral shaping and quantum noise limited operation. The project will cover both numerical simulations, algorithm development as well as experimental implementations.

DTU Bioengineering seeks a qualified candidate for a fully funded 3-year PhD position within Bioinformatics Based Mapping of N-Glycosylation of Proteins in Archaea. The PhD project is part of a Marie Sklodowska-Curie doctoral training Program, GLYCO-N, funded by the EU (MSCA Doctoral Network).

PhD position summary/title:–PhD scholarship in Microalgae for fish feeds – DTU Aqua

DTU Aqua offers a 3-year PhD position in microalgae for fish feed. Your overall focus will be on different microalgae species and their nutritional quality for use in aquaculture feeds.

You will be employed in the Section for Aquaculture located at DTU’s satellite campus in Hirtshals at the scenic west coast of Denmark. Here, you will gain scientific experience in cultivation and utilization of microalgae for fish feed and nutrition, including nutrient uptake and utilization.

The PhD scholarship is part of a larger project to develop circular economy by utilizing sludge from a commercial fish farm to produce micro algaeYour overall work and focus will be to test, grow and analyze different microalgae species under specific conditions to improve their nutritional quality and composition for subsequent use in aquaculture feeds. By that, you will contribute to proving a concept of circular economy involving several industrial partners in collaboration with nearby colleagues. Your primary research and tasks will be to:

  • Work with different algae species and test different media and gases based on waste outlet from a recirculating aquaculture farm (RAS).
  • Examine the influence of media and CO2 (biogas) on algae composition (protein, lipid, and fatty acids with focus on their ability to bind CO2 and the long chain PUFA synthesis.
  • Test functionality of algae on fish larval development, performance, fatty acid composition, and microbiome activity.
  • Formulate extruded feeds containing whole-cell meal or extracts of algae and test these in digestibility trials with salmonids.
  • Assess theoretical costs and profitability of using various algae species and their nutritional composition and potential (lipids, FA, proteins).
  • Complete required PhD school courses and external research stay.
  • Disseminate scientific results in peer-reviewed scientific articles.
  • Attend conferences to present your research and expand your academic network.
  • Contribute to section work tasks including occasional teaching and MSc-supervision.

PhD position summary/title:–PhD scholarship in computational kinetic modelling of human glycolysis – DTU Biosustain

The metabolism of glucose to pyruvate, glycolysis, is seen in most organisms including humans and taught in all introductory biochemistry courses. Despite its importance, we have yet to make a precise kinetic model capturing a detailed understanding of the underlying regulatory structure. Constructing a mechanistic model of human glycolysis will pave the way for further development of targeted medicines and strain engineering of biopharmaceutical cell factories.

Thanks to recent advances in computational and analytical biology, it is now possible to reconcile mechanistic models of cell metabolism with information from quantitative multiomics experiments. In this study, we will explore human embryonic kidney (HEK) cells.

VAMOR contributes to a more sustainable and quieter future for Europe. Noise pollution has arisen as one of the key factors towards the degradation of the quality of life in European societies. In that context, efficient physics-based sound modelling is a key enabler towards not only optimized and sustainable acoustic profiles through efficient design procedures, but also affordable so-called digital twins that monitor product performance in real time. To this end, the overarching goal of VAMOR is to provide high level scientific and transferable skills training on a new generation of efficient vibro-acoustic modelling techniques, so-called model order reduction (MOR) strategies, to a group of high achieving, competent doctoral candidates to promote a quieter and more sustainable environment. We are looking for two bright and motivated PhD students for two 3-year fully funded PhD positions starting 1 June 2024 (negotiable). The project is financed by the Independent Research Fund Denmark, and it is a collaboration between DTU, the University of Cambridge (UK), the Royal Holloway University of London (UK), and Stony Brook University (USA). It is an excellent opportunity to be involved in advanced research on cyber-security and cyber-deception, with important practical applications.

The two positions are part of the project Loki: Situational aware collaborative bio-inspired cyber-deception. This project, inspired by Norse mythology, with Loki being a shape-shifter god and a master of trickery, aims at redefining and evolving the emerging field of cyber-deception. Here, we attempt to deceive attackers by creating fake vulnerable systems that are aware of their surroundings and are constantly shifting.
