We are searching for highly motivated postdoctoral researchers with an Ph.D. or MD/PhD in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field obtained within the last 10 years to join our team. The Mechanical and industrial Engineering Department (MIE) at the University of Illinois-Chicago (UIC) is seeking applications for a Post-Doc to conduct research in the area of fluid mechanics, non-Newtonian fluid mechanics, suspensions, and porous structures.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Applicants are expected to have a strong background in Fluid mechanics and Fluid dynamics. Candidates with expertise on computational methods/CFD and/or hands-on experience in fluid mechanics and in technologies such as particle image velocimetry (PIV) and micro-PIV measurements are preferred. Matlab, Fortran and machine shop experiences are also plus. Excellent communication and written skills are required along with demonstrated success in previous academic research. Additionally, the selected candidates will be expected to oversee undergraduate and master students, collaborate with the team members, and write reports and publish peer-reviewed journal articles. The projects’ team involves collaboration between Europe and US universities in both experimental and numerical analysis.

A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Almudena Veiga-Lopez in the Department of Pathology, University of Illinois at Chicago

This Postdoctoral Research Associate conducts research in the area of machine learning (ML), artificial intelligence (AI), and rural medicine. This innovative role will combine the expertise from the nationally and internationally recognized Rural Medical Education Program (RMED), housed in the NRHP, at the University of Illinois College of Medicine Rockford with a mentor and support from CHEMA. 

 

The Postdoctoral Research Associate will also be affiliated CHEMA and expected to participate in monthly seminars with other postdoctoral research associates in the UIC College of Medicine. The Postdoctoral Research Associate will have a mentoring committee that includes faculty and experts from the fields of rural health AI/ML, family and community medicine, and research design/analysis to support professional development. The Postdoctoral Research Associate will also participate in a research mentorship program including writing groups to provide support for grant submissions for all types of awards offered at the Rockford and Chicago campuses.

Two postdoctoral research associate positions are available in the Multiscale Materials and Manufacturing Laboratory (M3L) at University of Illinois Chicago (UIC). This is a joint position between UIC and Argonne National Laboratory (ANL) seeking fresh PhDs with expertise in computational materials modeling informed machine learning approach development for high-performance computing (HPC) environment. A Ph.D. in appropriate engineering or physical science discipline closely related to this area of research is required. HPC resources at the UIC and ANL will be utilized for massively parallel simulations and training of generative AI models. Physics-informed machine learning approach will be used to predict material evolution under thermomechanical, electro-thermal, and electrochemical conditions. The position will be annually renewable depending on performance with a strong chance for growth, high-impact publications, and opportunities to interact with academia and national labs.

The Shimamura Lab in the Department of Surgery at the University of Illinois at Chicago focuses on studying the functional and clinical impact of GPCRs and tyrosine kinases in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). We are looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow who is interested in translational lung cancer research. We have shown that GPCRs are a new target in overcoming acquired drug resistance in highly heterogenous NSCLC (Soucheray et al. Can Res 2015, Becker et al, Can Res 2019, and Pulido et al, Can Res 2020). The postdoctoral fellow will study the molecular biology of GPCR and cancer heterogeneity using a variety of preclinical models including patient-derived materials, cancer cell lines, and in vivo models. The Department of Surgery, Dr. Basabi Rana’s Lab at the University of Illinois at Chicago is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate. This position requires a Ph.D. in Cancer Biology (or a related field) with related scientific training.

 

In addition, other essential skills will include elucidating at a molecular level the role of various novel upstream signaling molecules regulating growth, apoptosis, and survival in cancer cells, with particular focus on hepatocellular carcinoma and other gastrointestinal cancers. A major component of our study is engaging Black families and communities in research using culturally sensitive methods. The laboratories of Preetish Murthy and Ameen Salahudeen are seeking a talented PhD graduate to lead a flagship project centering on lung cancer biology and translational research. The candidate will utilize a world class toolset (Murthy et al. Nature 2022; Salahudeen et al. Nature 2020) of single cell and spatial techniques, and model systems of human organoid culture, murine models, and lung cancer patient samples. The candidate will aim to identify novel cell types and mechanisms responsible for tumor progression and immune escape thereby opening up avenues for drug discovery and development. Project success will lead to collaborations with new or existing biotech and pharma partners to increase translation of laboratory findings. The ideal candidate would be productive during the early years of the project to position themselves for a K99 submission should they choose an academic path, or an internship/long-term position in biotech or pharma should they choose the industry path.

The research in the laboratory is centered on understanding how metabolic homeostasis is maintained at the physiological level and defining the pathological alterations in metabolic diseases, including obesity, diabetes, and inflammation.

We are interested in defining molecular mechanisms by which hormonal and nutritional cues orchestrate metabolic physiology across tissues. A combination of cutting-edge tools will be employed, including biochemistry, molecular and cellular biology, mouse genetics, genomics, metabolomics, proteomics, and endocrinology.
