This position will translate, develop, and deploy genomics pipelines developed with model species to cassava and related species. The thoughtful integration of trait discovery and genomic selection can accelerate breeding efforts to increase the rate of genetic gain and create novel healthy, nutritious, and sustainable crops for many markets globally.

The Post-Doctoral Associate will need advanced bioinformatics skills (e.g., command line, Python, and R) to analyze large genomics datasets, adapt emerging genomics pipelines developed in maize to cassava, and deploy data to breeders across the world. This person will be responsible for collaborating on the development of genomic selection, AI pipelines, and trait discovery pipelines to advance cassava crop improvement for smallholder farmers. The incumbent will participate in weekly meetings and annual project meetings and lead workshops to train international researchers at the One CGIAR and National Agricultural Research Institutes (NARIs).

The Ithaca-based Post-Doctoral Associate will be a highly visible person central to the success of global genomic breeding and Buckler Lab international crop improvement efforts. The CUTES Research Group has a successful history in the nexus of urban transportation and environment/energy systems research and is involved in several large-scale interdisciplinary projects in economic/environmental impact assessment such as transportation emissions and air pollution/public health in New York City. Our research seeks to combine fundamental theoretical investigations with serious applications including the modeling and development of efficient systems for extracting and processing information. We aim at developing theoretical models, hybrid numerical approaches, computational algorithms, integrated software platforms, and ultimately policy insights and practical guidelines for managing the interactions among urban technologies, infrastructure and environment networks, and consumers and communities.

The School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Cornell University seeks a postdoctoral research associate. The position will be located at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, USA. The position is initially available for one year with a potential renewal for a total of two years. We have developed a novel computational framework to improve understanding of the underlying dynamics that lead to escalating regional hurricane disaster risk, and to support design and analysis of public policy interventions to address them. The framework explicitly considers perspectives of and interactions among multiple key stakeholders (government, primary insurers, and homeowners), and multiple diverse interventions (e.g., home strengthening, acquisition, and insurance). It includes a computable general equilibrium model to relate hurricane damage to gross domestic product, labor wages, savings, etc. We envision the person hired in this position to extend this framework to create an optimization model that represents the government’s interest in controlling hurricane risk by balancing economic growth, equity, and regional loss exposure to determine how to allocate funds for insurance subsidies, mitigation grants and acquisition programs.

The Aydemir’s lab of Molecular Nutrition in the Division of Nutritional Sciences is seeking a full-time postdoctoral researcher. Dr. Aydemir’s research group investigates the metabolism and transporter-mediated function of micronutrients, zinc, and manganese in mammalian systems. These studies involve the integration of the techniques in biochemistry, molecular, cellular biology, neuroscience, and physiology to micronutrient biology and related disorders. The ideal candidate for this position would be a motivated individual able to work independently. The successful candidate will be expected to perform in vitro cell culture assays and in vivo laboratory animal (mice) research. This is a one-year appointment with a possibility of renewal depending upon satisfactory job performance and funding availability.

The Li Lab is interested in elucidating complex plant natural product biosynthetic pathways and developing genetic circuits using synthetic biology in yeast and Nicotiana benthamiana. The lab uses a combination of synthetic biology, molecular biology, plant biochemistry, metabolic engineering, and multi-omics approaches. We seek a candidate with strong economics skills, ideally with a focus on macroeconomic modeling. Experience with computable general equilibrium modeling is desirable but not required.  Ideally this person would have a Ph.D. in economics or a related field. The focus of this person’s research would be on the connection between hurricanes and regional economics with a particular emphasis to understanding the implications of different policy options for low-income households and how the consequences of different policy pathways could be impacted by evolving climate.

The Department of Psychology in the College of Human Ecology at Cornell University is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate for up to a 2-year period beginning fall 2022. The successful candidate will work on a currently

funded study investigating the value of youth-driven learning on positive youth development. Despite a substantial and growing research literature on curiosity, resilience, and purpose in life, there remain a small number

of viable interventions to enhance these strengths. Our lab is collaborating GripTape – a youth self-driven learning program to evaluate the effectiveness of the their intervention program, and the underlying mechanisms

that account for positive outcomes among youth participating in it. Through a series of projects, we intend to clarify precisely why GripTape works, for whom, and what psychological and social factors optimize its impact.

A Postdoctoral Associate position is open in the Johnson lab to study how dietary intake of bioactive lipids and production of bioactive lipids from the gut microbiome can influence mammalian phenotypes. The Johnson lab uses genetic, genomic, and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) based-lipidomic approaches to understand lipid-dependent host-microbe interactions. A postdoctoral position is available in the Leifer Laboratory in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at Cornell University. The lab focuses on innate immune receptor signaling and regulation using a variety of techniques from signal pathway analysis in primary human and mouse macrophages and dendritic cells, and cell lines, to whole animal models of disease. Toll-like receptors (TLRs) and their crosstalk with other signaling pathways is a current area of ongoing research.

We seek highly motivated candidates with experience in cell biology, signaling, innate immune receptors, flow cytometry, molecular biology, and lab animal handling experience. Excellent written and oral communication skills are a must and bioinformatics experience analyzing -omics data is a plus. This individual will work on currently funded projects as well as carve out their own project in TLR signaling regulation. This position entails field work and laboratory-based research examining forest nitrogen dynamics over winter, how these processes will change with warming winters and reduced snowpacks, and how they compare to summer conditions. The Fuller Spatial Ecology and Decision Science Lab https://blogs.cornell.edu/fullerlab/ at the New York Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit at Cornell University is seeking candidates for a postdoctoral associate to provide data management for a bat population monitoring project using mobile acoustic survey data. The project is in support of the North American Bat Monitoring Program (NABat), collaborating with partners from the U.S. Geological Survey and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The project will collect and analyze mobile acoustic survey data from monitoring partners in the northeastern United States. The candidate will serve as the data manager, working with partners to determine where assistance is needed, troubleshoot, understand data management needs, data processing needs, and work to gather resources from partners. The candidate will apply knowledge of data management, computer programming, quality assurance and control, GIS, and data management guidelines to support the collation of regional bat population monitoring and survey data. The primary objective of this role is to ease data management burdens on partners and aid in the aggregation of data on bats occurring in the region so they may be accessed to address management needs.

The candidate will work with state, federal, and non-governmental organizations in the northeast (NY, VT, NH, ME, MA, CT, RI, PA and NJ, DE, D, VA, WV) to provide technical assistance to partners engaged in monitoring and managing bat populations and will support preparing, managing and uploading data from acoustic surveys to the NABat database.

The Nwosu lab has positions for two postdoctoral associates. Applicants should be enthusiastic about conducting research on cancer metabolism and specifically on delineating the role of glutathione (GSH) in pancreatic cancer. The project has various multidisciplinary contexts including a link to the tumor microenvironment/immunology, tumor subtypes, transcriptional and epigenetic regulation as well as therapeutic resistance. The project will require the use of cell lines and mouse models to mechanistically determine how GSH promotes cancer and the effect of targeting the GSH pathway on tumor growth. The successful applicants will have access to various already existing data that will ensure a smooth commencement of the project. Besides research, the applicants will be encouraged to participate in career development activities within and outside the university. Salaries are set at the NIH rate.
